Curator Talk & Tour: Leslie Cole, Swindon Born Artist
Event Location: Museum & Art Swindon
Join local historian Philip Garrahan for a tour of Leslie Cole: Recording Conflict in the Second World War. In this gallery tour, visitors will gain insight into the unique creative context in which Cole spent his formative years, before he became a war artist. Philip will cover Cole’s training at and beyond the Swindon School of Art and his early relationships with other influential artists. The tour will also celebrate Cole’s talent for lithography, shown through works from the collection at Museum & Art Swindon and loans from Philip’s own collection.
Philip Garrahan recently published Made in Swindon: a Social History, 1840s-1940s, which explores the intersection of Swindon’s industrial and social history through essays by six historians. He is the co-curator of The Artist in the Making: From Swindon to Hull in the exhibition.
Talk approx. 40-45 minutes, plus questions with the curator afterward.
