Tours and Object Handling

Our Community Engagement Officer has taken Discovery Boxes, including objects to handle and supporting photos, out to groups in Swindon, along with arranging interactive tours at Museum and Art Swindon.

Harbour Project

We delivered a five-week summer programme for families, devised in partnership with Harbour. The visit included an interactive highlights tour, including opportunities to handle objects; and craft activities: creating fossils from air dry clay, and paper cut collage characters.

We also delivered four sessions for adults. As well as the highlights tour, the visit included opportunities to handle objects, time to share histories and culture and lunch.

All of these sessions were a great opportunity for people to learn about the history of Swindon, while enabling people to share information and experiences from their own culture and heritage.

Women of the World

Following art outreach sessions, the group have visited a number of our changing exhibitions as well as the History galleries. Following these visits, we have been fortunate enough to receive donations of interesting items from Swindon’s history that we did not have in our collection. The visits have also inspired artwork.

Coffee and Conversation

The group, run by Jacob Green, and supported by Fayeza Sadat, have enjoyed Object Handling sessions at Swindon Hub, along with tours and activities at Museum and Art Swindon, to develop oral and written language skills. Regular participants have started to write content for Social Media and our website.
