Museum & Art Swindon: Our rebrand

16 Jan 2024
Museum & Art Swindon rebrand

After months of meticulous planning and strategic development, we are proud to present our refreshed brand identity and name that reflects the museum's commitment to innovation, growth, and community-centric values.

Meet Museum & Art Swindon.

Our rebranding encompasses a new logo, name, colours and visual elements that communicate Museum & Art Swindon's dedication to our key values of being: inclusive, proud, professional and brave. The updated logo represents the layered bedrock and foundations of Swindon, and of our evolution as a museum whilst paying homage to Swindon’s rich heritage.

We teamed up with GEL Studios, a creative agency based in Swindon. Carly Smith, the Creative Director, expressed our shared vision:

We wanted to create an identity for the new museum that has real meaning and purpose.

The branding journey was focussed on how Museum & Art Swindon positions itself and explored what the museum has to offer to the community and beyond. From its collections and exhibitions through to the expert curators and the new venue too.

Knowing that the new museum would be a vibrant destination, this guided key branding decisions from the very start of the project. The bright and accessible colour palette is energetic and representative of inclusion, coupled with the layered element that acknowledges Swindon's history, which was equally as important to include in the new identity.

We've loved working on such a fun, local brand. As members of the Swindon community, we feel really proud to have played our part in bringing the next phase of Museum and Art Swindon's history to life.

The rebranding initiative is more than a cosmetic change; it represents a strategic move ensuring that the Museum, which will reopen in Spring 2024, provides a public service that: encourages discovery, enriches people’s lives, celebrates Swindon’s history and its amazing art collection, inspires the public, staff and stakeholders and has the ability to share its world class collection with the public.

Frances Yeo, Swindon Museums Manager, expressed enthusiasm about the rebrand, stating, "This marks a pivotal moment in the history of Museum & Art Swindon. Our new brand identity not only captures the essence of who we are today but also sets the stage for our future endeavours".
